The woodpecker and the elephant

Once upon a time there lived a woodpecker with a flaccid beak. His beak hung and swung like the trunk of an elephant. Unable to make even the faintest of dents on trees his handicap forced him into a life of homelessness.
Upon the same time their lived an elephant with an erect trunk. It pointed and pierced the air like the beak of a woodpecker. Unable to drink from any pool or river his handicap forced him into a life of unquenchable thirst.

If the two beings had met maybe they could have done things for each other that would have made their lives a whole lot better. But they didn’t. They just paid tax like everybody else.
