Leader

When he was in power the raindrops came down in single file, scared of stepping out of line. Two-hour showers became twenty-year trickles.
When he was in power the leaves gripped onto the trees for dear life, desperately trying not to clutter the pristine pavements.
When he was in power the rainbows stood to attention. They took the arches out of their backs and reached up to the heavens.
When he was in power the earthquakes picked their spot in order to assist him with demolition projects.
Thunder timed its rumbles to punctuate his speeches.
Lightning hung around to listen to them.
Birds lived in rows of terraced nests, and paved their nests with bits of broken eggshell using their faeces as cement.
WHEN HE WAS IN POWER
